Doha – Mubasher: Hamad International Airport’s (HIA) number of passengers jumped 23% in the third quarter of 2015 to reach a record high of 8.4 million, comparing to figures from last year, according to the airport’s statistics.
HIA showed a 19% surge in aircraft movements Q3-15 to 55,186, compared to 46,405 in the same period of 2014. Last September, aircraft movements reached 18,304, while August saw a record number of 18,660, followed by 18,222 movements in July.
Total cargo tonnage came to 242,513 tons in Q3-15, of which 79,408 tons were handled in July, 80,766 tons in August, and 82,338 tons in September 2015.
Badr Mohammed Al Meer, chief operating officer at HIA, lauded the figures saying “we owe this great increase in operations to the expansion in weekly flights by the airlines that run HIA”.
