Hitachi ABB Power Grids to supply step-up transformers for Al Dhafra PV2 Solar project

UAE - Mubasher: Hitachi ABB Power Grids will supply large generator step-up (GSU) transformers, protection, and telecommunication systems to China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for the construction of the Al Dhafra PV2 Solar project in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) is building the plant, which will supply power to Emirates Water and Electricity Company, along with Abu Dhabi's Masdar, EDF Renewables, and Jinko Power, according to a press release on Wednesday.

With around three million solar panels and two gigawatts of power capacity, the Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic project will be the world’s largest single-site solar farm.

Expected to be operated by November 2022, the project will supply electricity to around 160,000 homes across the UAE.

The Managing Director of Hitachi ABB Power Grids in the UAE, Gulf, Near East, and Pakistan, Mostafa Al Guezeri, said: "Electricity will be the backbone of the entire energy system and solar energy will be the one of the most competitive renewable energy in the coming decade, contributing to a carbon-neutral future."
