IHG, Bougary Holding to develop world's largest Crowne Plaza hotel in Makkah

Riyadh – Mubasher: InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced the signing of a management agreement with Bougary Holding Co to develop Crowne Plaza Makkah Beban in Saudi Arabia.

The new hotel is scheduled to be opened next December, featuring 1,200 rooms, Arabian Business reported.

The hotel, located in close proximity to the Holy Mosque, is set to be the largest Crowne Plaza in the world and will be a landmark hotel for IHG.

The hotel joining the InterContinental and Holiday Inn in the holy city will serve the influx of pilgrim visits expected within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030,  intended to diversify the kingdom’s economy and invest more heavily in infrastructure.

It is worth noting that IHG is the largest international hotel group in the kingdom in terms of the number of hotels and rooms.

Commenting on the management agreement, Pascal Gauvin, managing director, India, Middle East & Africa (IMEA) of IHG, said, “Saudi Arabia offers great opportunities both in terms of domestic and inbound tourism and is central to our expansion strategy in the Middle East.”

“This is a milestone signing for us in the Middle East and is testament to our commitment to the market,” he added.

IHG operates 23 Crowne Plaza hotels across the Middle East and is expected to open further six hotels within the coming five years.

For his part, CEO of Bougary Holding Co Loay Bougary said, “We are proud to partner with a strong global player such as IHG on this milestone development. We look forward to welcoming guests to the world’s largest Crowne® Plaza in 2019.”

Jeddah-based Bougary Holding Co develops, manages, and maintains properties including residential, commercial, clinical, and marketing complexes.
