In a first for GCC, Uber launches taxi service in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh – Mubasher: Uber Saudi Arabia on Wednesday announced the launch of UberTaxi service in the kingdom. The new service pairs Uber’s modern technologies with Saudi experienced taxi drivers.

The launch of Uber’s first taxi service in the GCC in Saudi Arabia emphasises the transport company’s commitment to promoting the kingdom’s mobility system, according to a press release. Uber Taxi promises customers “convenient and seamless” taxi rides.

Uber Saudi Arabia aspires to offer new mobility options to strengthen the oil-rich country’s path to growth and modernisation in light of the National Transformation Program’s initiatives.

UberTaxi’s launch will be a “further investment” in the kingdom’s major road network, given its advantages in providing “additional reliable and affordable” options to passengers to get around in the country.

On this occasion, Uber Saudi Arabia’s general manager Mohammad Gazzaz said, “Our new service is aligned with the kingdom’s National Transformation Program, specifically on improving the quality of transportation networks across the kingdom.”

Both riders and drivers will enjoy the same safety features available on all other Uber products, including trip sharing, speed alerts, the emergency button, as well as caller anonymisation.

Thousands of taxi drivers have already been on-boarded on the application and started riding. The drivers will also have the same privileges offered to all Uber drivers.

Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the launch of Uber Taxi across the kingdom is a remarkable advance for the brand’s efforts in providing reliable and affordable transportation for Saudi Arabia’s residents and visitors.
