Dubai – Mubasher: India’s Calicut International Airport in Kerala revealed that it is currently working on no objection certificate (NOC) from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Emirates to operate direct flights to the airport.
The certificate will pave the way for Emirates to start operating direct flights to Kozhikode (Calicut) in northern Kerala, Arabian Business reported.
The step follows UAE flagship carrier’s submission of its final report to them on Tuesday, after conducting a compatibility study along with an Airport Authority of India (AAI) team at the airport earlier in March.
“The final study report is being completed by including Emirates requirement and will be submitted to the DGCA through our (AAI’s) corporate headquarter in New Delhi shortly,” K Srinivasa Rao, Airport director at Calicut, told Arabian Business.
He added that Emirates plans to start operations of daily flights to Kozhikode as soon as the NOC from the DGCA is obtained.
“Official announcement, if any, will be made at an appropriate time,” the spokesperson said.
Currently, Emirates has a codeshare arrangement with flydubai, which operates direct flights from Dubai to Kozhikode.
It is worth noting that Calicut international airport is expected to be the 12th busiest airports in India and the third busiest in Kerala.
