Inflation in UAE down 1.6% during March

Mubasher: The inflation rate in the UAE maintained its downward trend for the 15th consecutive month, as shown by the data of the Emirati Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FSCA).

The consumer price index (CPI) in the UAE decreased during March 2020 by 1.60% on an annual basis, recording 106.9, down from its reading in the corresponding month of last year at 108.64.

Data shows that a drop in the prices of the recreation and culture division by 9.89%, and in housing, water, electricity, and gas prices by 4.08%, prompted the fall in headline inflation last month.

Similarly, the prices of communications and furniture and household goods declined by 0.62% and 1.84%, respectively, while the miscellaneous goods and services group decreased by 2.86%

On the other hand, food and beverage prices went up by 3.95%, and tobacco prices increased by 6.43%.

The CPI also decline by 0.89% compared with its level last February at 107.86.

On a monthly basis, CPI decreased across all seven emirates, falling in Abu Dhabi by 1.5%, by 0.68% in Dubai, 0.61% in Ajman, 0.48% in Fujaireh, 0.36% in Umm  Al Quwain, 0.04% in Sharjah, and 0.03% in Ras Al Khaimah.
