Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian minister of investment and international cooperation said that she has discussed with Careem expanding in the Egyptian market in the upcoming period.
Sahar Nasr added in a statement issued on Wednesday that she explained to Ramy Kato, the head of Careem operations in Egypt, the managerial and legislative procedures the government is carrying out to support investments, and create a business-friendly environment.
Nasr also stressed the government’s efforts to remove barriers and attract more investments.
The minister noted that the Egyptian cabinet has approved a law regulating passenger transport services by private cars.
The government approved the law in May, saying that it will allow companies operating in this field, such as Uber and Careem, a six-month period for reconciliation.
The new law consists of 23 articles, and it aims at providing a legislation that organizes and regulates passenger transportation through private cars using information technology.
Ghada Wali, the minister of social solidarity, previously revealed that the new law will compel companies such as Uber and Careem and others to pay taxes, and social insurance.
