Italy, other European states to support Qatar after rift

Doha – Mubasher: Italy and Qatar on Monday said via a joint statement that they agreed to continue their economic and financial cooperation, Reuters reported.

Qatar’s minister of finance Ali Shareef Al Emadi held a meeting with the Italian minister of economy Pier Carlo Padoan in Rome as part of a tour of major Western countries that also included France, England, Germany and the US.

"The meeting took place in a highly cordial atmosphere, in line with the excellent state of political and economic relations between the two countries," the joint Qatari-Italian statement said.

Switzerland’s Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) recently announced that it will launch a new service for marine shipping to Qatar from Oman’s Salalah port.

Similarly, Danish global container company Maersk announced that it approved new container shipping orders to Qatar from Oman.

Last week Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, the UAE and other Arab countries cut their diplomatic ties with Qatar, and cut off travel and trade exchange, accusing Qatar of supporting Iran and funding terroristic groups.

Kuwait was one of few to maintain its relations with Qatar.
