Italy’s Eni begins drilling at Egypt’s Zohr 3rd unit

Cairo – Mubasher: The Italian oil and gas company Eni announced it has started production at the third unit of Egypt’s giant Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean Sea.

Operations at the new unit have begun with an output capacity of more than 1.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcfpd), Eni said in a statement on Thursday.

The current output of the supergiant field amounts to 1.1 bcfpd, accounting for around 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) a day, the company added.

The Italian oil and gas producer is aiming at producing 2 bcfpd and 2.7 bcfpd by the end of 2018 and 2019, respectively.

On 26 April, Eni said it has started gas production at Zohr’s second unit.
