Italy’s Eni drills 9th well in Egypt’s Zohr

Cairo – Mubasher: Italy's Eni has completed drilling the ninth well in Egypt’s supergiant Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean Sea at a cost of $300 million with initial production of 150 million cubic feet of gas per day.

The oil and gas giant has postponed the tie-up of the new well to the national gas grid until the sixth gas processing unit (GPU) in Zohr is implemented with a capacity of 400 million cubic feet of gas per day, a source told local newspaper Alborsa.

The source attributed the delay to the lack of capacity that absorbs the well’s production in the current GPUs.

Eni aims to gradually boost production from the ninth well to around 250 million cubic feet per day, upon which total output will reach 2.25 billion cubic feet by the end of the year, according to the source.

In October, Eni announced that it seeks to produce nearly 3.2 billion cubic feet of gas from Zohr field by the end of 2019.
