Dubai – Mubasher: DP World’s unit Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) attracted 267 new companies from 48 countries during the first half of 2017; a growth of 6% year-on-year, according to a bourse statement.
Jafza also leased more than 340,000 square metres of space for facilities for a variety of sectors and industries during the period, it said.
Middle Eastern companies accounted for 59% of the new companies that joined Jafza, followed by Asia-Pacific companies at 20%, European companies at 13%, and North America and African companies at 4% each.
Jafza has a wide variety of sectors, with electronics companies accounting for 17% of new companies, followed by equipment and machinery businesses at 14%, food, agricultural products, vehicles, and transport companies at 12% each, service companies at 9%, and general trading, steel, and construction materials businesses at 8% each.
