Japan’s Nikkei closed Thursday at 3-week high

Mubasher: Japanese stock indices ended Thursday’s trading session in the green, with the benchmark Nikkei index registering its highest level in three weeks after the yen fell against the dollar and backed by the banking sector.

The Nikkei index rose 0.6% to 22,724.96 points, while the TOPIX index increased 0.3% to close at 1,792.08 points.

The US dollar rose, regaining the level of 112 yen. By 07:10 am GMT, the JPY/USD fell 0.2% to JPY 112.21.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s (MUFG) and Mizuho Bank’s stocks added 1.6% each.

Earlier on Thursday, official data showed a rise in manufacturing activity in Japan by 0.5% versus analyst forecasts of a 1.9% gain.

US stocks closed Wednesday in the green, registering record highs after the Dow Jones Index closed at 23,940.7 points.
