Japan’s grants, loans to Egypt hit $6.7bln

Cairo – Mubasher: The total value of loans and grants extended by Japan to Egypt amounted to JPY 768 billion ($6.7 billion), assorted between JPY 152 billion ($1.3 billion) as grants and JPY 616 billion ($5.4 billion) in the form of loans, said Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr.

There are 66 Japanese companies working in Egypt with total investments worth $771 million, spread across the financial, petroleum &oil sectors, said Sahar.

In the same vein, trading house Mitsubishi Corp. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are expected to sign similar agreements with the Egyptian government to explore the possibility of building a total of 1.3 million kilowatts of natural-gas-fired combined-cycle generating capacity.
