Riyadh – Mubasher: The total tonnage cargo handled in Jeddah Islamic Port totalled 5.2 million tonnes in July 2020, an increase of 12% when compared to the corresponding month in 2019.
In the first seven months of the year, the port received cargo worth SAR 51 billion, according to a statement by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) on Wednesday.
During July, daily average handling exceeded 166,000 tonnes, handling capacity surpassed 14,000 standard containers per day, and a total of 424,000 standard containers were handled, a rise of 4% from July 2019.
Moreover, the port posted a 22% yearly increase in transhipment last month at 2.4 million tonnes.
This performance reiterates the robustness and solidness of the kingdom’s economy and the capabilities of Saudi ports, particularly the Jeddah port, which plays an influential and effective role in driving the national economy and the development wheel.
The port received 390 ships and around 20,000 vehicles and vessels. Handled food products increased by 23% to reach 851,000 tonnes, construction materials amounted to more than 724,000 tonnes, up 14%, while livestock totalled more than 500,000 heads.
