Mubasher: The Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) and the Russian State Rosatom Atomic Energy Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to study the possibility of exploiting the Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
Rosatom is working in Jordan's peaceful nuclear program, according to Jordan News Agency (Petra).
The step comes as part of the Jordan’s strategic option to open new horizons to strengthen cooperation in nuclear energy sources to serve the national economy with added value, said the president of JAEC Khaled Touqan.
The agreement signed by Touqan and Rosatom representative Yevgeny Bakermanov on Saturday aims at exploiting the SMRs as a key factor in Jordan's nuclear strategy to generate electricity and desalinate drinking water, as well as other thermal and industrial applications.
Meanwhile, Bakermanov said that Russia and Jordan have long been cooperating in the field of nuclear technology.
