Jordan, UNICEF inks $39.4m agreement

Mubasher: Jordanian government singed a $39.4 million agreement with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support the educational sector in Jordan, according to Petra news agency.

Jordan’s minister of planning and international cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, stated that the agreement is directed to provide the potentials to draw up policies and plans for quality and safe education and improve education quality through development of skills for education service providers.

The London donor conference pledged to support Jordan with $2.1 billion grants over a three-year period, with $700 million annually, and another $300 million grant to support Jordan’s general budget, as well as raising the financing ceiling at the rate of $1.9 billion annually for three years, a total of $5.7 billion.

According to Petra, the agreement comes within the framework of a project to address priorities within the 2016-2018 Jordan Response Plan (JRP), and to follow-up on the outcome of the London conference.
