Jordan budget deficit soars 14% in 11M

Mubasher: Jordan’s budget deficit rose by 14.06% to JOD 1.03 billion by the end of November 2015, versus JOD 899.9 million in the same period of 2014, according to a report issued by Jordan’s Ministry of Finance.

Budget deficit, excluding foreign grants, reached JOD 1.47 billion during the first 11 months of 2015, compared to JOD 1.66 billion in the same period of 2014.

The ministry attributed the rise in budget deficit to the decline in revenues and grants, despite lower expenses, as total local revenues and foreign grants dipped by JOD 320.7 million to JOD 5.73 billion in the above mentioned period, versus JOD 6.06 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Foreign grants shrank to JOD 448.4 million from JOD 755.6 million, and local revenues declined to JOD 5.29 billion from JOD 5.3 billion.

On the other hand, total expenditures decreased to JOD 6.76 billion from JOD 6.95 billion, as result of lower current expenditures by 2.2% and capital expenditures by 7.1%.
