Jordan’s EU exports jump 39% as Italy demand surges

Arab News: Jordan’s exports to the EU climbed 39.3 percent in the first nine months of 2025, driven by stronger demand for clothing, fertilizers and chemical products, official data showed.

Export values reached 436 million Jordanian dinars ($614.9 million), compared to 313 million dinars during the same period of 2024, with Italy emerging as the leading EU destination for Jordanian goods, the country’s news agency, Petra, reported, citing data from the Department of Statistics.

Jordan’s strengthening EU shipments mirror broader trade momentum, with total exports up 8.9 percent in the first nine months of 2025 — driven by a 9.1 percent rise in national exports and a 6.5 percent increase in re-exports. Imports grew 7 percent, widening the trade deficit by 5 percent.

Mohammad Samadi, a member of the European Chamber of Commerce in Jordan, told Petra that the marked growth in exports reflects the improved competitiveness of Jordanian products and their ability to penetrate new European markets.

According to the Petra report: “He said the European market remains a key avenue for Jordanian trade, with strong demand for products such as clothing, fertilizers, and chemical goods.”

Samadi noted that trade agreements with the EU have already yielded positive results for Jordan’s commercial and industrial sectors.

Pharmaceuticals and selected agricultural goods were also among the key exports to the EU.

Imports from the bloc increased by 9.7 percent, totaling 2.35 billion dinars, up from 2.14 billion dinars in 2024. Germany remained Jordan’s top EU import partner, accounting for 502 million dinars, a 2 percent rise from the previous year.

Imports comprised vehicles, industrial machinery and equipment, as well as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electrical and electronic equipment, and food products.

Samadi emphasized that sustaining export growth requires continued support for national industries, enhancing competitiveness, and streamlining export procedures.

He highlighted the significant increase in exports to Italy as a key indicator of Jordanian products’ expanding presence in European markets, particularly in fertilizers, chemicals, and apparel.

He also noted the European Chamber of Commerce’s role in facilitating bilateral cooperation, organizing meetings between Jordanian and European businesses, providing technical and commercial guidance, and assisting companies in meeting European standards to access EU markets.
