Riyadh – Mubasher: The privatisation of King Khaled International Airport (KKIA) may raise the number of airlines landing in the airport by between 35% and 62% in five years, Okaz newspaper reported, citing the head of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s aviation and supporting services committee, Husain Al-Zahrani, as saying.
The privatisation will increase the number of airlines landing in the airport to 50 or 60 from the current 37, Al-Zahrani stated, noting that landing and taking off will be more organised in the coming period.
Potential investors expected to be part of the privatisation process will provide an annual plan every five, ten, or 20 years, which will contribute to the development and expansion of the airport’s terminals and services.
KKIA’s privatisation will provide a number of jobs and will not have a negative financial impact, Al-Zahrani explained.
On Sunday, 2 July, sources reported that Saudi Arabia plans to sell a stake in KKIA.
