KSA invites US’s firms to participate in its nuclear programme – Minister

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia invited the companies in the US to take part in developing its civilian nuclear power programme, said on Monday the Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, Khalid Al-Falih.

“[Saudi Arabia] is not interested in any way in diverting nuclear technology to military use,” Reuters reported, citing Al-Falih as saying.

In October, the agency cited three Saudi informed sources that the Kingdom sent a request for information to international suppliers to establish two nuclear power plants as a part of its first step towards a formal tender.

Saudi Arabia aims to use the nuclear energy in peaceful purposes, aiming to diversify its energy sources, and it will start building two nuclear power plants by the end of 2018.

The Kingdom aims to raise its nuclear energy capacity to 17.6 gigawatts (GW) by 2032, which is equivalent to 17 reactors.
