KSA jobless rate declines 6% in Q3-17 – GASTAT

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s jobless rate fell 5.8% in third quarter of 2017, the General Authority for Statistics’ (GASTAT) said in a report.

The Kingdom ranked 12th among G20 countries in the average of unemployment decrease in Q3-17, the GASTAT added.

“The report indicates that the unemployment rate among Saudis showed signs of stability at 12.8% despite an increase in the number of new jobseekers,” the Saudi body noted.

The jobless rate among Saudi women tumbled to 21.1% in Q3-17, from 22.9% in Q2-17.

Saudi jobseekers reached 1.23 million during the period, including 190,822 males and 1.04 million women.

Holders of university degrees accounted for 45.8% of jobseekers, while the largest number of the jobseekers are in the age group of 25 - 29, making up 31.3% of the total rate.

“Young men and women make up around 36.7% of Saudi population. It showed that around 54.8% of the population is involved in economic activities, of these 78.4% are men and 19.9% women,” the report concluded.
