KSA’s inflation remains negative for ninth consecutive month – GASTAT

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi cost of living price index (CPI), known as inflation shed 0.1% during September, compared to the year ago period, to remain negative for the ninth month in row, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics' (GASTAT) report on Tuesday revealed.

The year-on-year decrease is attributed to drop in prices of nine sections of which clothing and footwear with 3.1%, followed by recreation and culture with 2.8%, and transport with 1.6%, the GASTAT added.

Furnishings, household equipment and maintenance, food and beverages, restaurants and hotels, and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels sections levelled down 1.5%, 1.4%, 0.9%, and 0.3%, respectively.

On the other hand, tobacco’s section soared 100%, followed by education with 4.4%, communication with 1.3%, miscellaneous goods and services with 1%, whereas the health sector remained unchanged.

Month-on-month, the Kingdom’s inflation rate inched up 0.1% to reach 137.8 points in September, against 137.7 points.
