Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia plans to invest around $11 billion in the water sector, energy and water sector manager at the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) Mohamed S. Al-Abdalla said.
The Kingdom will pump $1 billion into sewage water treatment projects, as well as invest $10 billion in water desalination projects, Al-Abdalla added.
Water desalination projects will be located in the Saudi cities of Yebrin, Jubail, Rabigh, Yanbu, and Shuqaiq.
“The largest desalinated water investment will be in Jubail 3, which is an Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) with a water production capacity of 1,170,000 cubic meters (m3) per day and power capacity of 3,000 Megawatts (MW),” Zawya reported.
Shuqaiq’s desalinated water project will provide 420,000 cubic metres per day, followed by the project in Yanbu that will produce 450,000 cubic metres a day, while Rabigh’s plant will supply 600,000 cubic metres per day.
The other two water desalination projects will be in Yebrin and Jubail.
Yebrin’s project is a water purification plant with a production capacity of 800,000 cubic metres per day.
“The largest sewage treatment plant planned is in Jeddah and has a production capacity of 500,000m3/day,” Zawya noted.
The other two sewage treatment plants will be built in the Northern borders (Tarif, Arar, Rafha) with 86,000 cubic metres production capacity and in Dammam with 300,000 cubic metres output capacity.
