Kahramaa, TEES Cybersecurity Center ink cooperation agreement

Mubasher: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on Sunday announced signing an agreement with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) Cybersecurity Center at Texas A&M University at Qatar.

The agreement, which follows the firm’s strategy in transforming from manual to smart operating, aims to strengthen the cooperation between both parties for the mutual benefit in joint activity in relation to Cybersecurity, according to Kahramaa’s tweet.

The deal was signed by Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, Kahramaa president, and Dimitris Lagoudas, TEES deputy director, during a meeting of the SGC-Q steering committee.

“This cooperation between Kahramaa and TEES represented in one of its important centres, namely the Texas A&M Cybersecurity Center is an excellent embodiment of an extended successful partnership between our two entities," Al Kuwari said.

Under the agreement, TEES experts will study the firm’s situation and give recommendations for current and future development opportunities.

Moreover, the deal will launch an industry consortium to study current and future development opportunities for Qatar, in addition to a mechanism to develop and manage projects related to cybersecurity.

Al Kuwari added that the deal “increases the use of IT-based electric power systems, which can increase cybersecurity vulnerabilities, which increases cybersecurity's importance.”
