Mubasher: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on Tuesday inaugurated the first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the country.
The station comes within the Gulf country’s vision and Green Car Initiative, president of Kahramaa Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said.
The initiative aims at reducing harmful carbon emissions by 7%, as the gas-rich country seeks to reduce emissions by 17% across all of its sectors by 2022, Al Kuwari added.
The statement came during the launch of the first phase of Electric Car Charging Station Project which is part of the Green Car Initiative in the world’s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The project’s first phase is a joint cooperation between Tarsheed, which was established to facilitate initiatives and organisations that contribute to achieving the Qatar 2030 Vision, Siemens Qatar, and Al Fardan Group.
Kahramaa did not give further details concerning the project’s total cost.
