Mubasher: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on Sunday announced that it has requested bids for the first large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, which the firm hopes to receive before the end of 2018.
The project comes in line with the country’s strategy of diversifying power generation sources, in addition to increasing the level of its generated renewable energy.
Located in the west of Doha near Al Kharsaah, the new power plant is built on an area of 10,000 kilometres, Kahramaa tweeted.
The project is expected to produce around 700 megawatts of solar energy.
Moreover, the project is structured as Build-Operate-Own-Transfer (BOOT) for 25 years, with ownership to be transferred to Kahramaa after the end of the term.
The company did not mention further details concerning the project’s total cost or its expected of operation.
