Katara opens $1bn Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland

Mubasher: Katara Hospitality, a state-owned Qatari fund, revealed that it has opened Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.

After nine years of construction work and a year after its soft launch, the Qatari hotel developer opened the $1 billion resort on Friday at a grand opening ceremony.

“Katara Hospitality is globally renowned for creating landmark hospitality gems that enhance the tourism landscape in the markets we operate, and such a momentous occasion further illustrates our continued success within the global luxury tourism sector,” Nawaf bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, chairman of Katara Hospitality, said.

Over 1,000 highly esteemed guests attended the opening including Swiss Federal Councillor Schneider-Ammann, Katara Hospitality CEO Hamad Abdullah, and Bruno Schopfer, managing director of Katara Hospitality Switzerland.

The resort comprises four hotels with a category of three- to five-star Superior, with 383 rooms and suites, a health and medical centre, eight restaurants and bars, 67 residence suites, a 10,000 square meters alpine spa, as well as a host of facilities and services.

In August 2017, the Qatari developer announced that it acquired Bürgenstock Resort with an amount of $1 billion.
