King Salman launches $22bn development projects in Riyadh

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has uncovered plans to pump around $22 billion (SAR 82.51 billion) in investments across 1,281 projects in Riyadh to improve amenities, education, and infrastructure during the coming period.

The potential investments will include carrying out 16 educational projects, added to 15 in the housing sector, seven medical cities, several sports cities, as well as establishing the largest Islamic museum, according to Arabian Business.

The housing projects are expected to raise home ownership for Saudi citizens.

Through this mega plan, Saudi Arabia seeks to develop an ambulance centre, establish a specialised mental hospital, and modernise the Riyadh TV.

The kingdom will also enhance its roads network, expand some of its airports, and build an environmental area spanning 315,000 square metres and man-made lakes to the south of Riyadh.

On the sidelines of this announcement by King Salman, Riyadh governor Prince Faisal bin Bandar stated that these $22 billion investments were a part of a larger scheme of 2,830 projects, whose total value would exceed SAR 90 billion ($24 billion).

It is worth noting that prior to becoming king, Salman served as governor for Riyadh for almost 50 years.
