Kuwait Airport’s passenger movement rises 8% in 2018

Mubasher: Passenger movement via the Kuwait International Airport (KIA) surged 8% year-on-year to 14.81 million passengers in 2018 from 13.74 million, according to a statement released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday.

The number of passengers arriving at KIA reached 7.43 million in 2018, up from 6.89 million a year earlier, DGCA deputy director general for aviation safety and air transport affairs Emad Al-Juluwi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

In 2018, the number of departing passengers grew to 7.39 million from 6.84 million in 2017, Al-Juluwi added, noting that flights had increased by 6% last year.

KIA’s total arriving and departing flights registered 118,140 in 2018, against 111,640 in 2017, while the arriving and departing commercial flights jumped to 112,970 in 2018, compared to 106,360 in the prior year, the top official noted.

Moreover, cargo movement rose 3% to 249.53 million kilograms in 2018, up from 241.66 million a year earlier.

Imported cargo reached 193.03 million kilograms in 2018, against 185.34 million in 2017, while the exported cargo registered 56.49 million kilograms, up from 56.31 million in the prior year.
