Mubasher: The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) decided to raise the discount rate by 0.25% to 3% from 2.75%, as stated by the governor and chairman of the CBK, Mohammad Al Hashel.
This raise will be effective starting from Thursday, 22 March 2018, according to a recent statement by the CBK.
Raising the discount rate in Kuwait followed the United States Federal Reserve Bank’s decision to raise interest rates on Wednesday, 21 March.
It is noteworthy that this was the first policy meeting under the new Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, who expressed confidence in the economic growth and inflation rates in the U.S.
