Kuwait CPI rises 2.70% in May

Kuwait – Mubasher: On a year-on-year basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Kuwait rose 2.7% in May, compared to 2.62% in April, according to data issued by the Central Statistical Bureau on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the inflation rose 0.07% to 144.4 points, in May compared to April.

Prices of seven major groups levelled up, led by the entertainment group by 0.39%, while prices of five groups stabilitised during May.

Food and beverage group prices grew 0.13%, while the transport group's index rose 0.22%.

Year-on-year basis, the prices of eight groups, led by Transportation, jumped 12.33%, while the prices of three groups were down by 0.78%.

Food and beverage group prices rose 0.13% year-on-year in May, while the housing services index increased 4.28%.

By the end of April, the Central Statistical Bureau announced the launch of a new inflation index in June, with the relative weights of the basket of goods and services adjusted by increasing the weight of housing at the expense of food and beverages
