Kuwait gov’t subsidies on products total $291m in year

Mubasher: The value of the government subsidies on products in Kuwait stood at KWD 88 million ($291 million) during the fiscal year ended in March 2017, according to a report issued by the commerce and industry ministry.

Kuwait provides nearly 223,707 ration cards, on which 1.98 million individuals are registered, including Kuwaiti and Gulf citizens, the statement added.

The government aims at practicing the concept of food security with all its aspects through a safe network of sustainability and effective tools, as well as specialised plans and researches.

Kuwait has topped the Arab states in terms of food security, as registered in the annual World Food Security Index of the Economist Intelligence Unit of the World Food Security Index, while it was the 26th out of 113 countries worldwide.
