Kuwait plans to produce 15% of power from clean energy

Mubasher: Kuwait’s electricity and water ministry announced that the country intends to generate 15% of its power demand from renewable energy sources by 2030, particularly solar, as reported by Construction Week Online.

Kuwait has started to bulk up renewable energy’s contribution to the power mix for the coming 12 years.

On 28 March, a solar energy deal was signed by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KSIR) and two South Korean companies, KEPCO E&C and SAM UN, Construction Week Online added.

Kuwait is exploring solar and wind power as the two main forms of renewable energy to form a clean energy industry to meet the country’s increasing demand for oil.

According to independent rating agency Capital Standards, Kuwait is one of the world’s leading oil producers, but nearly fifth of the country’s oil production is used to meet domestic energy consumption,

Kuwait had to explore other sources to generate electricity for its population, which, like other GCC countries, continues to grow.
