Kuwait – Mubasher: Mobile Telecommunications (Zain) in Kuwait submitted a bid to the Omani Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to compete for Oman's third mobile network licence.

The offer includes an integrated business plan, technical plan, financial plan, and financial offer, the company said in a statement to Boursa Kuwait on Tuesday.

The shortlist of applicants will be announced on 14 August, while the financial evaluation and winner of the third licence will be announced on 4 September.

Zain stated that the bid comes as part of the company’s search for the best investment opportunities to maximise its profits and studying the feasibility of the telecommunications market in Oman.

The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) also filed a bid to compete for Oman's third mobile licence.

The competition comes as the Omani Ministry of Transport and Communications plans to implement the first phase of the satellite project and to establish a communications and information technology company, among other milestones in the market.
