Mubasher: Kuwait’s holdings of US Treasury bonds grew by 4.84% or $2 billion year-on-year (YoY) in December 2019 to stand at $43.3 billion as compared to $41.3 billion, recent data by the US Department of the Treasury showed.
On a monthly basis, holdings levelled up by 0.69% when compared to $43 billion in November.
The US Treasury bonds for Kuwait were distributed as $36.894 billion long-term bonds, while the short-term bonds stood at $6.426 billion.
Among Arab states, Kuwait ranked the second for the holdings of the US Treasuries, following Saudi Arabia which topped the list with $179.8 billion. The UAE came in the third place with $40.7 billion.
At the global level, Japan remained the first with $1.154 trillion, followed by China and the UK with $1.069 trillion and $332.6 million, respectively.
Total US Treasury bonds increased by 11.13% in December to reach $6.696 trillion, compared to $6.271 trillion in December 2018, while slipping by 0.6% monthly.
