Kuwait’s new cabinet takes oath; MPs withdraw

Mubasher: The new Kuwaiti cabinet took oath at the beginning of the regular session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, in accordance with the constitution's article 91, as reported by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

A number of MPs withdrew and left the session during the oath-taking, KUNA added.

“As stated in the article, before taking up his functions at the Assembly or at its Committees, a member of the National Assembly shall take oath to serve the country and people,” the news agency said.

An Amiri decree was issued last Monday to form the new Kuwaiti government; the new cabinet took oath before the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah the day after.

The National Assembly's session on Tuesday will be dedicated to the formation of several specialised committees, as well as discussing issues related to housing, retirement regulations, domestic labour, economic and financial reforms, in addition to other topics.

The session’s talks will also include reports on anti-corruption efforts, development projects, Kuwait Airways transformation, the Kuwait-NATO centre agreement, and sports investments.
