Kuwait’s public debt outstanding balance goes down in 2018

Mubasher: Kuwait’s outstanding balance of public debt declined to KWD 3.5 billion ($11.5 billion) at the end of 2018, according to the Central Bank of Kuwait’s (CBK) Financial Stability Report.

In 2018, the Kuwaiti central bank did not issue treasury bonds and tawarruq, the report revealed.

“Amid ample liquidity and non-issuance of government debt, CBK’s liquidity absorption surged, primarily through one-week interventions and tawarruq,” the central bank noted.

The CBK decided in 2017 to suspend domestic sovereign bonds issuance following the expiry of public debt law in late 2017.
