Kuwaiti bourse closes in red; liquidity posts 16-year drop

Kuwait – Mubasher: The benchmark index of Kuwait stock Exchange (KSE) has ended Sunday’s session at 5,450.98 points after losing 0.18% or 0.18 points.

The weighted index retreated by 0.42% or 1.48 points to reach 350.72 points, while Kuwait-15 index levelled down by 0.95% to close at 810.66 points.

KSE’s liquidity shrank to the lowest level in about 16 years since January 2001, while trading volume decreased to the lowest level in five years.

Trading volume plunged 38.4% to KWD 5.36 million, while trading volume declined by 35.5% to 36.6 million shares.

The consumer services sector led eight decliners by a fall of 0.85%, dragged by Kuwait Cable which lost 11.36% to head the losers.

Meanwhile, the financial services topped three gainers by 0.32%, on the back of Amwal and KAMCO which rose by 10.53% and 7.3% respectively.

Mayadeen was the most active stock on which 4.98 million shares were exchanged at a value of about KWD 147,000. The stock retreated by 1.67% to 29.5 fils.

Zain recorded the highest liquidity that reached KWD 1.04 million, after 3.2 million shares were exchanged. The stock fell by 1.5% to close at 330 fils.
