Kuwaiti bourse declines 6% in week

Kuwait-Mubasher: The benchmark index of Kuwait Stock Exchange (KSE) posted 6% losses of over 300 points during the week ended 21 January, closing at 4,946.33 points on Thursday as compared to 5,256.94 in the previous week. Thus, the Kuwaiti bourse has leveled up its losses to 10% at the beginning of 2016.

Over the week, trading volume stood at 718 million shares which generated liquidity worth KWD 80 million, as turnover retreated on Thursday to KWD 9.4 million which is the lowest in 10 sessions.

Kuwait-15 dropped more than 80 points during the week to close at 767.74 points as compared to 828.38 points in the previous week; a fall of 7.3%.

Meanwhile, the weighted index leveled 7% down to 330.24 points this week from 355.39 a week ago.

The declines of KSE resulted in from the severe decrease in oil prices which reached $26 a barrel, while Kuwait’s crude oil settled at $19; the lowest in 14 years.
