Kuwaiti bourse down; volumes fall to 4-year low

Kuwait-Mubasher: The benchmark index of Kuwait’s stock market ended lower for the second session, as it levelled down 0.92% or 51.8 points to close at 5,571.93 points on Sunday which witnessed the lowest trading activity in four years.

The weighted index retreated 0.25% to settle at 380.46 points. Similarly, Kuwait-15 index inched down 0.02% or 0.14 points to 902.02 points.

KSE’s turnover stood fell by 7.7% to KWD 7.59 million, as trading volume saw a dramatic drop of 31.8% to reach 54.13 million shares that were exchanged through 2,008 transactions.

This week, the stock market’s benchmark index will have support at 5,500 points as it would settle above the resistance of 5,725 points, said technical analyst Ibrahim Al-Filkawy.

The basic materials sector topped the gainers by adding 1.4%, while oil and gas sector led the decliners after losing 1.58%.

United Foods was the best winner with an increase of 4.21%, while Kuwait Cable headed the losers as it ended down 10%.

Al-Madina was the most active stock as seven million shares were traded through 146 deals, with a value of about KWD 234,200. The stock fell by 5.6%.

NBK stock posted the highest turnover of KWD 2.07 million, after 35 transactions were executed on 2.56 million shares. The stock settled at 810 fils.
