Local selling drags EGX down near 17,600 pts at Sunday’s close

Cairo – Mubasher: The indices of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed Sunday’s trading session in red territory amid thin liquidity.

The benchmark EGX30 index fell 221.99 points, or 1.24%, closing the session at 17,610.87 points.

The small- and medium-caps EGX70 index inched down 0.02% to 878.4 points, while the broader EGX100 index slipped 0.52% to 2,281 points.

Similarly, the equal-weighted EGX50 index shed 0.69% to 3,004 points.

Trading volume on stocks reached around 231.8 million shares exchanged at a turnover of EGP 932.2 million through 28,570 transactions.

Market capitalisation lost EGP 7.3 million and closed at EGP 984.5 billion.

Arab and foreign investors were net buyers with EGP 7.1 million and EGP 866,000, respectively, while Egyptian investors were net sellers with EGP 7.99 million.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) dropped 3.31% to EGP 90 with a turnover of EGP 31.9 million.
