Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has issued a license to the local subsidiary of Maersk in order to operate in all ports across Saudi Arabia.
The step comes along with the authority’s strategy to improve the efficiency and quality of performance and services offered in Saudi ports, according to MAWANI’s recent statement.
This is the fourth license of its kind to be issued to foreign investors in the Kingdom.
“We have issued a license to Maersk (Saudi Arabia) to operate in all 9 Saudi ports. This reflects our mutual confidence as container volume increases and KSA expands as a regional logistics hub,” Saad Abdul Aziz Al Khalb, president of MAWANI, commented.
Al Khalb added that the authority aims at providing a positive business environment to attract new investors and suppliers in a move to increase ports’ capacity and abilities to match marketplace demands to better serve both Saudi business owners and international brands across the Kingdom.
It is worth noting that Maersk has weekly containerised shipping services to the ports of Jeddah, King Abdullah, Dammam, and Jubail
Maersk, the Danish business conglomerate, has been the largest container ship and supply vessel operator in the world since 1996.
