MSM closes new year’s first session in green

Mubasher: The Muscat Securities Market (MSM) closed the first trading session in 2016 in positive territory, as the main index, MSM 30, rose 0.12% or 6.66 points to the level of 5,412.88 points, and the Sharia Index surged 0.26% to 857.85 points.

Trading volume came to 9.47 million shares exchanged at OMR 1.36 million through 443 trades on Sunday.

The financial and services sectors rose by 0.36% each, while the industrial sector increased by 0.19%.

Out of 25 companies, nine shares closed higher, three others dropped, and the 13 remaining were flat.

Oman Investments topped the gainers after adding 6.06%%, while Ahli Bank Oman made the deepest loss with a 1.53% decline.

Nizwa Bank was the largest-traded stock with 3.86 million shares changed hands, while Al Anwar Holding led in value as it generated OMR 432,100.

The main index closed Thursday at the level of 5,406.22 points after falling 0.70%.
