Mubasher: The main index of the Muscat Securities Market (MSM) slipped 0.11% losing 6.54 points in January, and closed at the level of 5,487.68 points.
The main index was dragged down by the services sector which lost 1.17%, as Renaissance Services and Ooredoo fell 8.33% and 5.46% respectively.
On the other hand, the financial sector went up by 3.6%, as Al Madina Takaful and National Finance surged 29.85% and 18.32% respectively. The sector gains were offset by Galfar Engineering which led the decliners and dropped 10.64%.
Similarly, the industrial sector added 2.48%, as Oman Fisheries was the biggest gainer and jumped 65.57%, and was also the most active in traded volumes with 48.95 million shares.
The market capital grew by 2.87% or OMR 495.91 million in January to OMR 17.78 million compared to OMR 17.29 million by the end of December.
Trading activities also increased during the month, as traded volumes went up by 27.49% to 363.39 million shares, while turnover were up by 23.22% to OMR 77.44 million.
