MSM loses for 3rd month in row

Mubasher: The Muscat Securities Market’s (MSM) main index, MSM 30, closed January on a negative note, dropping for the third month in a row.

MSM 30 dipped 4.20% or 226.86 points to the level of 5,179.36 points, compared to 5,406.22 points in December 2015.  

Trading volume declined 31.20% to 330.5 million shares from 480.395 million shares exchanged last month. Turnover fell 54.79% to OMR 78.26 million from OMR 1.733 billion.

The market value decreased 1.47% to OMR 15.54 million, compared to OMR 15.77 million.

Al Jazeera Steel was the top performing share after rising 15.44%, while Renaissance Services was the lowest share as it slipped 22.09%.

Bank Muscat made the biggest trading value with turnover of OMR 16.79 million, whereas Al Anwar Holding came first in terms of trading volume with 46.1 million shares.

The main index declined last month 2.55% or 141.63 points.
