MSM sees losses Tuesday

Mubasher: The Muscat Securities Market (MSM) saw a negative performance on Tuesday.

The main index went down 0.3% or 17.36 points to reach 5,779.81 points.

The market was weighed down by the fall of 10 blue chips led by Bank Nizwa which tumbled 1.14%, followed by Galfar Engineering and Contracting at 1.06%.

The rise of Oman Cement by 2.04% trimmed the market’s losses, while Oman Investment and Finance grew 1.99%.

The financial sector fell 0.49% as Bank Muscat and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) slid 0.83% and 0.8% respectively.

The services sector decreased 0.19% as SMN Power Holding, Oman Telecommunications and Oman Qatari Telecommunications levelled down 1.14%, 0.68% and 0.63% respectively.

Oman Telecommunications was the value leader after generating OMR 795,570, while Oman Qatari Telecommunications was the most active stock after trading 1.09 million shares.

On the other hand, the industrial sector was the only gainer after increasing 0.14%, spurred by Oman Cement and Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles went up 0.55% and 5.26% respectively.

Trading volume reached 5.33 million shares on Tuesday, compared to 9.39 million shares on Monday. Turnover amounted to OMR 2.21 million, compared to OMR 1.99 million.
