Maersk halts orders after being hit by cyber-attack

Cairo - Mubasher: AP Moller Maersk said on Wednesday that it ‘unfortunately’ will not be able to accept any new delivery orders or receive bookings in the future.

In an announcement to all of its clients the company said that it is looking forward to resume work as soon as possible.

This comes after the cyber-attacks that targeted Russian oil company, Rosneft, as well as Maersk through some ransomware.

The company said that the global cyber-attack Petya is affecting multiple businesses.

The Head of Public and Government Relations in the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), Hany El Nady, told Mubasher that his company, of which 50% is owned by Maersk has its own container station and systems, adding that it was not affected by the cyber-attack Petya, despite using the same technological system used by Maersk.

The company’s technical team took all the measures to avoid any future attacks, especially of this kind, El Nady noted, adding that the company Suez Canal Container Terminal is able to accesses the data of its customers in a normal way.
