Magnitude 6.1 quake hits Iran-Iraq border, injures at least 90

Mubasher: A major earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck the border area between Iraq and Iran on Saturday.

The powerful shake was felt in Baghdad, Kirkuk, Suleimaniyah, Irbil, Ba’qubah, and Tirkit, Al-Iraqiya TV reported.

Reports confirmed that the earthquake was also felt in Kurdistan.

The epicentre of the quake was 19 miles west of the city of Javanrud in Iran, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Most of the casualties were in the town of Tazehabad, northeast of Kermanshah, state news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

At least one person has been killed and around 90 people injured, the governor of Kermanshah Houshang Bazvand told IRNA.
