Majid Al Futtaim Group’s unit opens 1st hydrogen plant in Dubai

Dubai – Mubasher: Al Futtaim Motors, a subsidiary of Majid Al Futtaim Group, inaugurated the first hydrogen plant in Dubai Festival City, in collaboration with France-based Air Liquide.

The new Hydrogen plant was established in Al Badia region and will enable the expansion of a fuel cell vehicle pilot programme.

Commenting on the UAE’s first hydrogen station, Bertrand Thiebaut, senior managing director of Al Futtaim Motors, said that the company is “one step closer to a low-carbon society, as we work towards a concrete contribution to a cleaner air, in line with the Government’s green agenda.”

Thiebaut, who doubles as the senior VP of the Al Futtaim Automotive Group, also revealed that the pilot programme, which had originally started with only three Toyota Mirai vehicles “will soon expand to involve a larger fleet that will be tested by key stakeholders in the UAE.”

The plant is a part of an experimental programme which started in May 2017 to test the utility of the zero-emission technology on the UAE's roads.
