Dubai – Mubasher: Majid Al Futtaim, a UAE-based shopping malls and retail owner and operator, has opened an AED 301.94 million ($82.2 million) regional distribution centre for the Carrefour franchise at National Industries Park in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone.
Executed as a part of Majid Al Futtaim’s AED 30 billion investment plan in the UAE, the new project will receive and control the quality of all items sourced to be sold by Carrefour, according to a company statement.
“We are investing heavily in cutting-edge infrastructure that will serve us not only today but well into the future, supporting our ambitious growth plans,” Majid Al Futtaim’s retail CEO Hani Weiss commented.
The centre is expected handle 42 million cases of products annually and 100,000 orders per day, which will be stored in seven temperature zones at zero to 25 degrees Celsius.
“This is the largest centre of its kind in the region and one that we will continue to invest in and expand, as our operation grows further,” Weiss said.
About 25% of the new facility’s power needs will be supplied by solar panels installed on its roof, Majid Al Futtaim revealed.
